The Grand Tour

Well I'm sure you've all been awaiting a tour, so here it is, our home sweet home!

Well, half of our hedges are dead...but we have three rose bushes and a gardenia, so I think those make up for the dead stuff. I wish I'd gotten a picture one week earlier; the roses were incredible!

Here is our lovely kitchen with our ghetto fridge and to the right a pantry that is bigger than any we've ever had but still can't contain our mass quantities of cereal.

Here is looking at our "breakfast nook" with the patio door and our dining room to the left.

Dining room.

View #1 of our living room and the front door. We can't decide what to do with our coffee table. Sometimes it is really nice to have a table in there, but it is pretty crammed with it in there full time. So for the moment we hide it in the corner.

Another view.

Our "office." It's a disaster...obviously. Also, my friend told me the other day that with such tall ceilings we'll need at least an 8 or 9 foot Christmas tree...she's probably right...for the moment we're settling for a 3 footer on a 6 foot trunk, we're fancy like that!

looking upstairs

Master bedroom (I made the bed after I took the picture...strange order to do things)

Our game/linen closet

looking down the hall towards the three smaller bedrooms

Zeke's room. I didn't take pictures of the other two rooms because they are basically the same as this minus the cute bed and the cuter resident.

Our tree. This is after Trustin did quite a bit of pruning. It originally looked like a giant ugly bush. We plan to prune it some more and eventually hang a swing off the branch that crosses down low. Also, you can see a bit of where we are planting grass. The green is actually only the fertilizer/mulch, but hopefully soon it will be sprouting grass too. We only planted about half of what we hope to have back there eventually.

Viewing the yard from the "patio" (which is currently dirt but with dreams of becoming paved...perhaps by March...it's a big patio)

The yard from another angle. Also, I forgot to take before pictures, but you can see some of the leftover weeds that Zeke and I spent days and days pulling. Zeke was an awesome helper!

Fish and Lions

When Gramma and Paca came down to visit for the weekend we decided to head out to Lake Mead and feed the fish and ducks. There is a ridiculous amount of smelly ugly wide mouthed carp down and the marina and when you start throwing in food they swarm so thick that I think you could plausibly walk across them. Zeke of course loved them, but I think Paca may have had the most fun.

Zeke kept trying to run and "jump" to Gramma. He jumps a bit like his Grandma Brockbank! In this video you can see his jumps when he sort of stomps/squats and stands up straight.

Our next important event was Halloween. Here in Vegas they still celebrate on Sunday, so we didn't actually take Zeke trick-or-treating. Instead we dressed him up and walked around the dollar store until it was time for dinner and then ate pizza buffet. We almost didn't dress Zeke up since there was no "real" reason too, but we were so glad we did because he makes one very adorable lion. We decided to make him a lion because he loves to roar, but in the last little while he's stopped roaring as much, although we did get a few good roars while in his costume.

Check out his cute puffy bum!

I just can't get enough of that face!

ROAR!

Utah

We took a lot of pictures on our trip to Utah. I was so grateful to be around so many wonderful and playful kids to bring all of us a bit more happiness. I just wanted to hold all of them so close, and especially my Zeke. Together we all had a lot of fun and I took about a million pictures...so this post is primary just pictures with not much to say other than I LOVE MY FAMILY!

Syri made Trustin take about 20 pictures of her posing on this chair; she is such a little ham! (while Zeke obliviously ate his breadstick)

Baseball!

She broke the ball---whoa!

Fun is exhausting.
(notice that two of these kiddos seem to be about 40% off the couch!)

Grape catching contest

Woot woot

Zeke discovered that he loved crawling behind the couch, running around the front and then doing it again.

He also loved playing in Grandma's bathroom cupboard.

Picaboo!

Carving pumpkins (and me demonstrating the proper way to balance a baby while carving).

Zeke loves his Grandpa

I love my Zekie

Whew, that was a lot of pictures!

Running around with Jesus

Little Stori, today I am missing you so much. My heart feels broken because I miss you and my heart is broken for your mommy and daddy and sister who love and miss you so much. I'm so grateful I got to know you and love you. The last time I held you I begged you to watch over your little family. So as sad as I am, I can't help feeling that I know you are watching over them.
I am grateful for what I know and for what the gospel has given us. I know that you are happy and I know that your family will all be together again. I keep replaying in my mind what your big sister Syri said: "Stori's running around with Jesus." That is a beautiful thought, and even more beautiful because I know that it is true.
A scripture that has touched me this week is John 11:35 after the death of Lazarus "Jesus wept." Of all men, Christ knew the eternal nature of the spirit, yet He knows the pain of our losses so fully, and He feels that pain. And so He wept. It testifies to me that He loves us and that He is indeed going to strengthen us and watch over you, sweet little Stori.
Thank you again for the joy that you bring, little angel.
I love you.

A lot of life and alliteration

Well, if last month I thought that I was initiated to motherhood, this month I think I am being initiated to adulthood. Woo-ee, being grown up is a lot of work! Everyday we have at least two major jobs for Trustin to do when he gets home and I'm a full time cleaner/organizer/unpacker/mother/cooker/want-to-be-asleeper, etc. For the most part its been exciting and fun. I can say this because I leave the worst stuff for Trustin. He is so amazing. He handles all the nasty tasks like toilet installations, black widow assassinations (3 so far!) and over all pest control (so far only one bug has been discovered inside, Trustin is winning this battle!).
Then last night the disposal decided to break, or Zeke decided to break it. I'm not quite sure, but he was suspiciously under that cupboard earlier in the day and caused a leak in the double osmosis filter, so perhaps he was even more "productive" under there than I realized at the time. Either way the result was wet. I was so proud of myself for tacking a mountain of dishes and scrubbing the counters only to look down and see that result of my dish washing is a giant greyish puddle steadily easing out from the cupboard under the sink. And naturally yesterday was also the day that I finally started mopping the floor. I say started because after almost 4 hours I was only done with about a third of it (and even more depressing, mopping doesn't erase ugly which is about the only word to describe our tile). So the giant puddle was right in the area that had been mopped, of course. So fix the disposal has been added to our long list of to-do's. Oh how I miss the days of the free maintanance man! We are our own maintanance men now, and we are being fully initiated yet again.
And ironically, today I am acting as a mother to triplets. Well, not quite. For a little over two days I am babysitting our friends little twins who are about Zeke's age. So with the three of them together I have officially decided to not even try to be productive today. I'm kind of liking that. Amazingly all three of them are asleep right now and while the floor is begging to be mopped I'm begging to be plopped on the sofa, or atleast on the computer chair and not acting like a homeowner.
Now, let it be known that despite our homes escessive demands on our time, we are loving this place and loving being here together. I guesss the moments when we sit around contentedly just don't make very interesting blogs (and well, the sitting around may be on hold even if the contentment is not). I am grateful for craziness because it is great for laughs. I'll tell you a lot more about our new home soon, or at least as soon as I can clean it up enough to take pictures.
In the meantime, here is the last month of adventures:
Pretty much every day before we moved out of our apartment Zeke and I would go to the same area of the secluded area of the complex to play. Zeke loved it and he was always such a silly loon.
He loved sitting at the picnic tables and making me through the ball to him and then he would intentionally drop it and start laughing.
He also loved trying to throw balls into the basketball hoop. I just loved seeing how tiny he is next to the basketball standard. Yay, he's still my little baby!
For a family date night we went out the Bellagio gardens and fountains. I thought Zeke would love the fountains but he was kind of ambivelent. I guess to him it was just like a splash park, except he wasn't allowed in the water. Where's the fun in that?

We went to stay with our friends the Coxes after our apartment contract ended. We had a lot of fun and it was so nice of them to let us stay. One day Zeke and I played out in the rainstorm and he was loving it. Unfortunately I spotted a neighbor walking around naked in his living room and decided it was time to go inside. (True story, aparently this neighbor is commonly naked...and he's the president of the HOA, weird). Zeke, unaware of why the fun had to end ran to the door and just cried to go back out. Sad, but so cute. He's definately his parents little boy. We love rainstorms (and yet we move to Las Vegas...I guess we'll invest in sprinklers).

At Zeke's buddy's birthday party Zeke decided that the splash pad was too fun to resist. So again fully clothed he insisted on running through the water and playing. Trustin got some pretty cute pictures of our soggy cute kiddo.

Zeke playing with his Daddy.

Zeke and Casen (he is the son of the family we stayed with) like to run full speed at each other and then crash and tumble. It eventually ended in tears but it was hilarious.

Well that's about all I have time for today. One baby just woke up, which then meant that a second baby woke up, and I'm counting down the minutes for baby number three. Off to play!
Oh, and here's a cute video of Zeke at the splash park:

Initiation to Motherhood

This picture is old, but shows just the kind of thing Zeke does to help initiate Mommy to parenthood.

At our soccer game last Friday night Trustin and I brought Zeke and another girl on the team brought her three sons. We only had 1 sub and thus whoever was the sub (typically me or the other mom, for obvious reasons) had to watch all 4 kids. The first time I was watching them it was chaos.

"Logan, put away that gum....No, don't eat it."

"James, no going out into the field"

"Don't dump out that water bottle."

"Hey, how'd you get that gum again?"

"Zeke, you don't need to be held."

"No, don't throw the ball on the field!"

"No more gum!"

"Hey, get back here!"

But we made it through.

Later in the night I was watching the kiddos again and Zeke was bawling. It was after 9:00 and he's used to being in bed by 8:00 so he was tired and grumpy. So I picked him up and was trying to comfort him and suddenly I hear an angry voice shouting "Hey---Somebody get those kids off the field!!" All three of the other boys were running like crazy in the field.

Their mom quickly came to swap me places. I guess it was pretty obvious I was not in control of the situation.

I thought, holy cow, 4 kids is tough! So my plan has always been to have lots of kids, but suddenly I was thinking, um, I don't know about this. Well, I still want lots of kids, but I guess I'm glad I get to ease into it one at a time (famous last words before I give birth to triplets, right?).

This week Zeke has been working hard to make sure I am fully initiated into motherhood. He's such an easy kid so my job hasn't been too tough. He was still an easy kid this week, but his body...not so much.

Warning, details that you don't care to know may follow.

Day 1: After Zeke's bath I was just letting him play in the nude for a minute while I did my hair. I always figure his little bottom deserves some fresh air. Well, I gave him a minute too long I was Miss Distracted Mom. I hear the familiar (yes, this happens often) sound of Zeke going potty. Laughing I pick him up and rush him to his room to put a diaper on him. While changing him I notice the mysterious substance on the bottom of his foot. Uh-oh. Sure enough the pee had been preceded by worse and Zeke had walked around in it, and then worse, in rushing back to the bathroom, I also walked around in it!

Day 2: Zeke has been sick this week. Blessedly, he hasn't seemed to feel sick, so he's still been pleasant. However Tuesday morning he threw up all of his breakfast, right into my hands (nice catch Mom!). Then about an hour or two later I begin to smell the familiar announcment that Zeke has a treasure for me to change. I pick him up and take him to his bedroom to change him. As I lay him down I said "Wow dude, this must be a doosey." How right I was.

First I notice that Zeke has managed to leak out of the front, back, sides and legs of his diaper (whoa!). Then I notice that "leak" doesn't quite describe it. Looking at myself I realize that my ENTIRE left thigh is covered in diarea, as is Zeke's clothing. After the cleanup of Zeke and I I discovered that by carrying Zeke I also managed to leave a trail of poo from the living room carpet, drizzled across the couch, down the hall and into his room!

Day 3: repeat of Tuesday, only this trail goes from the middle of our bedroom to the bathroom. Not quite as bad, thankfully!

Day 4: Blessedly the liquid nightmare has ebbed. Truly blessedly because as Zeke was sitting in the tub I looked down and there is a little log floating along. Seriously, 4 days in a row with this type of incident? It's gotta be a record.

I feel fully initiated! Truly I laughed every time, so that's gotta be a good sign. I think I must be ready for those triplets!

In other news, we are busy!

Our contract at our apartment ends next Thursday but it is easier to get help moving on Saturdays so we are trying to be basically moved out by Saturday and just live on our air mattress and deep clean next week. So I've been working like a crazy woman to pack boxes, entertain Zeke, (clean Zeke's disasters), and work like mad on my online classes. Then we also got asked to give talks on Sunday plus my regular primary less. It's been crazy around here. It's been a good crazy though.

We found out yesterday that the bank agreed to make the required repairs that the appraiser listed. This is really exciting because A) it looks guaranteed that we'll get the house and B) it is about $5000 worth of repairs that we don't have to do ourselves, yay! We are still crossing our fingers that they will be done repairing and we'll all be done with paperwork so we can still close by Oct 8th. We welcome any prayers you'd like to send our way.

Our good friends Marc and Kendra are letting us stay with them until our house closes, but we hate bumming off friends so the sooner it closes the better!

Well I guess that's all the latest. And sorry we haven't taken many pictures (although given the stories for the week, lets all be grateful).
